How is the FIX Top of Book Market Data feed different from the MEMOIR feeds?
The FIX Top of Book feed is legacy and limited in scope compared to MEMOIR.
The FIX Top of Book feed was retained from a prior technology vendor to support clients accustomed to receiving data in FIX format. It does not include features such as an instrument directory, trading status messages, or trade identifiers. For this reason, Blue Ocean generally recommends using the MEMOIR feeds.
To support FIX clients, Blue Ocean publishes a daily list of traded and halted symbols to an SFTP site, available at approximately 7:05 PM ET.
In practice, every FIX Top of Book message (MsgType W) carries an MDEntrySize, but fields such as Trade Conditions and Trading Status are not supported.
